Shiladitya Paul's academic and scientific accomplishments include a first class Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.) from the University of Calcutta with Honours in Chemistry. After completion of the degree he joined the  Dept. of Chemical Technology, University of Calcutta, where he began working with Prof. N. K. Mitra on an alumino-silicate project, the sintering & related phenomenon in alumino-silicate systems. The goal of this project was to understand the crystallization of alumino-silicate systems with heat treatment. After completion of his project he earned a first class Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech.) in Ceramic Engineering.

Mr. Paul completed a Master of Technology (M. Tech.) with a 10/10 as a member of the Ceramic Processing Laboratory from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. At IIT-Kanpur he worked with Prof. D. C. Agrawal on structural and electrical properties of nanocrystalline ZrO2 and ZrO2-Gd2O3 thin films. The research focus was to deposit and characterise doped and undoped ZrO2 thin films on a metallic substrate.

Currently a Ph.D. candidate at the Gordon Laboratory, University of Cambridge, Mr. Paul is focusing his research on Thermal Barrier Coatings (TBCs). His current research work with Prof. T. W. Clyne explores how the mechanical behaviour of the top coat affects the life of a TBC system.
